.KEY MESSAGES...
- Light rain and a few embedded thunderstorms are likely through this afternoon.
- Cold front arrives later today with drier and slightly cooler air behind the front.
- Dry forecast for the rest of the period through next Wednesday.
.SHORT TERM... (This evening through Friday night) Issued at 1235 PM CDT Thu Sep 25 2025
The majority of the rain right now is offshore, however chances remain elevated for southern and eastern areas throughout the afternoon hours. Looking at surface obs and the WPC surface analysis the front is currently located just about to McComb and extending SW through the Lafayette area. As the front continues to gradually drift southeastward it will dry out and slightly cool the area behind it. By the overnight hours tonight we will see rain chances completely gone inland.
Overnight Friday we find ourselves in the left exit region of the trough which brings some rising motion. This could in turn lead to some thunderstorm re-development over the coastal waters overnight and through Friday morning. Throughout the day on Friday we will continue to see the trough dig down into the area while it slides to the east helping us to completely dry out.
In terms of temperatures, most areas today have only made it as high as the low 80s so far. Those ahead of the front will likely only warm another couple degrees before we are out of the peak heating window or before the front arrives, whichever were to come first for a particular area. Friday morning low temperatures will be noticeably cooler if you step outside, with MinT`s in the mid 60s for the Northshore and Coastal Mississippi and the upper 60s to lower 70s for areas south of the lake. High temperatures on Friday will be right around or just a degree or two shy of climate normals, but with the drier air from the front it will feel rather pleasant outside regardless. &&
.LONG TERM... (Saturday through Wednesday night) Issued at 1235 PM CDT Thu Sep 25 2025
Saturday we will start to see ridging build in from the west in the upper levels with high pressure building in at the surface. This will keep us with little to no rain chances for the remainder of the forecast once the front is completely through the waters. Early morning temperatures Saturday look to be even a touch cooler than Friday morning, with MinT`s in the 60s to lower 70s sticking around through the forecast period. Afternoon high temperatures on Saturday will remain around climate normals. High temperatures heading into early next week do look to warm back up into the upper 80s to lower 90s for most areas.

.AVIATION... (18Z TAFS) Issued at 1235 PM CDT Thu Sep 25 2025
A mix of VFR and MVFR at terminals across the area this afternoon with some areas still reporting some low Cigs. Most rain has ended on land for now, but southern and eastern terminals will continue to have PROB30s throughout the afternoon. All terminals should have VFR conditions by later this evening.

.MARINE... Issued at 1235 PM CDT Thu Sep 25 2025
A cold front will continue to gradually move southeastward and through the region later today. Expect better chances for thunderstorms through this afternoon ahead of the front. These storms will likely produce locally higher winds and seas. Once the front finally moves completely through the coastal waters early Friday, light offshore flow will develop temporarily. Along the front winds are looking to remain at or around 15 knots in the more extreme cases outside of thunderstorms. That said, going in the weekend, conditions appear to be more benign at least through Monday.
