.SHORT TERM /THROUGH TONIGHT/... Issued at 248 PM CDT Wed Oct 1 2025

Tonight, clear skies with a light south to southwest wind. Lows tonight will be mild in the 50s, which is 10 to 15 degrees above normal.

Thursday, an upper trough will deepen across Washington, Oregon and California, while upper ridging builds across the Central and Eastern U.S. This will bring much above normal high temperatures across western Nebraska around 15 degrees above normal. Highs expected to reach 85 to 90. Southerly winds 5 to 15 mph.

.LONG TERM /FRIDAY THROUGH WEDNESDAY/... Issued at 248 PM CDT Wed Oct 1 2025

Friday into Saturday, the upper trough will advance across the Great Basin. This will lead to much above normal high temperatures from 85 to around 90 each day. A breezy south wind Friday. A lead shortwave trough will move into the Front Range on Saturday, with windy conditions across the southeastern half of the forecast area. South winds 20 to 30 mph with gusts to 40 mph are expected. As the lead shortwave trough lifts quickly northeast across the area Saturday night, a strong cold front will move through, with chance to likely POPs for showers and thunderstorms. The highest POPS located across the northwest Sandhills. Behind the cold front, much cooler on Sunday, with highs from 60 to 70. Cooler in the upper 50s to low 60s Monday. Mainly dry Sunday, with better chances for showers returning Sunday night and Monday night, as a frontal boundary stalls out south of the area.

.AVIATION /06Z TAFS THROUGH 06Z FRIDAY/... Issued at 1222 AM CDT Thu Oct 2 2025

VFR conditions are expected to prevail across western and north central Nebraska today and tonight. Skies remain mostly clear throughout the effective TAF period, and winds remain mostly light and variable overnight. By late morning, southeast winds are expected across the region, again remaining under 10 knots throughout the day. Will be keeping a close eye on patchy fog potential overnight in southwest Nebraska. Fairly dry lower layers in the environment should limit any concern, however some guidance brings just enough moisture for a few hours of patchy fog near KLBF. Will omit from TAFs for now, but may need to amend if humidity becomes greater than currently expected.
