Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Huntsville AL 843 PM CDT Fri Sep 12 2025

...New NEAR TERM, SHORT TERM, LONG TERM...

.NEAR TERM... (Tonight) Issued at 843 PM CDT Fri Sep 12 2025

A quiet weather night is ahead with light northeast to east flow and a clear sky. High pressure ridging remains in place across the eastern CONUS including the TN valley. Northeast flow and mixing has dropped dew points into the 50s to lower 60s this evening. A modest ridge-valley split should result in overnight lows in the upper 50s in our northeast AL and southern middle TN valleys, with lower 60s in north central and northwest AL. Tempeartures on the ridges and near larger bodies of water may only dip into the middle 60s.

.SHORT TERM... (Saturday through Monday) Issued at 843 PM CDT Fri Sep 12 2025

A dry and very warm weekend is ahead as a deep layer anticyclone/ridge sets up along and just west of the MS River Valley. MCS activity that generates at the nose of the LLJ in the upper Midwest into the Great Lakes will drop south into the lower OH Valley, but likely decay when doing so Saturday night into Sunday. There is a very low chance that isolated showers or thunderstorms that form over the mountains of north GA can migrate into our area, but that appears to be less than 10%. The wobbling upper level low will remain over the Carolinas through Monday. Highs over the weekend into Monday will range from the upper 80s in southern middle TN and northeast AL to the lower 90s in northwest AL. The dew points in the upper 50s to lower 60s will allow for overnight lows to be in the lower to middle 60s.

.LONG TERM... (Monday night through Friday) Issued at 843 PM CDT Fri Sep 12 2025

Little changes through next week for our weather has the upper low lifts slowly northeast through the mid Atlantic, allowing the mid and upper level ridge axis to shift east through the OH and TN valleys. This as an upper trough and low drop into the upper MS valley late next week. This may bring the next appreciable cold front southeast, albeit weakening as it does so. A dry forecast is being kept in place through Day 7, with rather persistent temperatures, with highs in the upper 80s to lower 90s and lows in the lower to middle 60s.
