.DISCUSSION... Issued at 202 PM CDT Sat Sep 27 2025

Surface cold front crossing the area today will bring slightly cooler low temperatures tonight, with a quick return to above normal on Sunday as the surface ridge quickly exits the area. Broad ridging aloft will dominate the weather over the upper midwest for much of the coming week. Scarce moisture combined with southerly low level flow will result in unseasonably warm temperatures (highs ~10-15 degrees above normal) through the period.

Long range models try to dampen the ridge toward next weekend as a surge of energy drops into the western US. Confidence in the timing of this evolution is low, however, due mainly to the presence of tropical systems in the Atlantic.
