Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Huntsville AL 105 PM CDT Thu Sep 18 2025

...New NEAR TERM...

.NEAR TERM... (Tonight) Issued at 105 PM CDT Thu Sep 18 2025

As high pressure continues to influence the area from the north, dry weather will continue overnight throughout the Tennessee Valley. Low temperatures are forecast to drop into the low to mid 60s under mostly clear skies. Due to lack of moisture, widespread patchy fog is not anticipated. However, a very low chance of patchy fog exists along large bodies of water.

.SHORT TERM... (Friday through Saturday night) Issued at 820 AM CDT Thu Sep 18 2025

Dry weather is forecast to persist through the afternoon on Friday, however, CAMs are hinting at a low chance of a few showers/thunderstorms making their way into northwest AL Friday evening as an upper level shortwave dips into the lower Mississippi Valley. Instability looks limited with unimpressive shear, but steep low level lapse rates will allow a threat of frequent lightning and gusty winds up to 40 mph if these storms materialize. Otherwise, mostly dry conditions will continue through the weekend with heat being the primary concern. Highs are forecast to reach the upper 80s to mid 90s, which is ~5-10 degrees above normal. If you have outdoor plans this weekend, be sure to stay hydrated and take frequent breaks indoors/in the shade.

.LONG TERM... (Saturday night through Wednesday) Issued at 1008 PM CDT Wed Sep 17 2025

The longer term was suggesting that mean troughing should become established across the eastern half of the North American domain. In this pattern, the stronger dynamics and surface frontal boundaries will remain well to our north and west. Thus dry and unseasonably warm conditions should continue as we go into the next week. But as upper level systems begin to move closer, rain chances will return during portions of the new work week.

Low temperatures Saturday night again will be in the 60s. Highs temperatures Sunday (the last full day of summer) will feature highs from the mid 80s east to lower 90s west. Previously noted upper support should arrive and bring lower end rain chances on Monday. Monday which also the first day of Autumn (which begins around 119 PM). More unsettled weather is expected next Tue/Wed with low, daily chances of showers and thunderstorms mainly in the afternoon to early evening. Low temperatures should range in the 60s, and highs from the lower 80s east to upper 80s east.
