.DISCUSSION...

KEY MESSAGES:

- An upper level trough passing through Montana this weekend will bring near to slightly below average daytime temperatures through the end of the next week.

- Freezing temperatures Sunday night and Monday morning.

- Rain is expected today through Sunday morning. Most of the rain will be south of the Missouri River.

WEATHER PATTERN OVERVIEW:

Upper trough moves through Montana this weekend with cooler temperatures and rain. Nighttime lows below freezing are expected on Sunday night. The lowest temperatures will be in the lower 20s in northern Philips and Valley counties.

A shortwave on SW flow aloft ahead of the trough moves into the forecast area today. Chances for rain will increase from south to north during the day today. Steady rain is expected this afternoon and tonight mainly along and south of the Missouri River as the upper trough moves through the area. Most of the rain with this system will be south of the Missouri River where the probability of 0.25 inch of rain is 40 to 80 percent while it will be 10 percent or less near the Canadian Border.

Chances for light rain will linger into Sunday morning south of the Missouri River. Then, skies will clear Sunday afternoon as high pressure moves into the area. Gusty NW winds may be high enough to require a Lake Wind Advisory on Sunday.

FORECAST CONFIDENCE & DEVIATIONS: Blended today and tonight PoP forecast with HiResWARW. Confidence remains high for precipitation south of HWY 2 with increasing confidence in higher PoPs south of MT Highway 200 this afternoon and tonight.

FLIGHT CAT RANGE: VFR today, a mix of IFR, MVFR and VFR tonight.

DISCUSSION: General SW flow aloft today and upper trough tonight and Sunday will bring varying amounts of low and mid level clouds and rain at times today and tonight. Ceilings and visibility will be VFR today. KGGW will have low VFR ceilings tonight while KGDV and KSDY will have a mix of MVFR and IFR ceilings and visibilities with rain. KOLF will have a mix of low VFR and MVFR ceilings tonight.

WIND: Light and variable early becoming north 5 to 10 knots this morning increasing to 10 to 20 knots tonight.

EQUIPMENT: At KSDY an AMD NOT SKED will remain in place until the METARs comms issue is repaired.
