.UPDATE... Issued at 233 AM CDT Mon Sep 8 2025
A plume of mid-level moisture is bringing cloud cover to parts of northern to east central Iowa early this morning. This is expected to remain in place through the early morning, slowly shifting to the east and diminishing after sunrise. Model soundings remain quite dry across much of the area and deep daytime mixing is anticipated. Temperatures will warm to the upper 70s across the area, and with the deep mixing and increasing pressure gradient, wind out of the south-southwest will become breezy with gusts of 25-35 mph this afternoon. That tightening pressure gradient is the first influence of the developing shortwave approaching the area later today. For much of today precipitation will remain to the west of the area as dry air prevents further development across Iowa. Uncertainty remains as to how quickly sufficient moisture will reach the area for shower development, with the HRRR delayed (06-12z) compared to NAMnest/FV3 and even RAP (00-06z). After showers develop, progression across the area is similar across CAMs with scattered shower activity slowly moving east through Tuesday. The axis of better instability remains east of the area with MLCAPE
