.SHORT TERM... (Rest of today through Friday) Issued at 1146 AM CDT Thu Sep 18 2025

An upper level ridge is overhead and that will bring quiet conditions for today. Drier air has pushed in and our current PWATs are under an inch and soundings show an abundant amount of dry air above the surface. Highs will be warm pushing into the upper 80s to mid 90s. Quiet weather remains in place into the overnight with lows in the low to mid 60s. With the dry air mass fog looks unlikely tonight.

The upper level ridge will start to push east on Friday as a short wave trough lifts into the Great Lakes. This will start to push our PWATs back up above an inch and will push a boundary into western TN during the afternoon and evening. There will be a low chance (10-15%) for scattered thunderstorms ahead of the boundary mainly from I-65 west. Lapse rates will be poor and bulk shear will be minimal but we will have inverted V soundings, this could bring gusty winds with any of the stronger cells but the threat is very low. Highs on Friday will once again push into the upper 80s to mid 90s.

.LONG TERM... (Friday Night through next Thursday) Issued at 1146 AM CDT Thu Sep 18 2025

The upper level trough will continue to lift through the Great Lakes over the weekend. This will bring us southwest flow and overall little to no forcing. This will keep rain chances over the weekend to 15% or less. Highs will remain hot for this time of year staying in the upper 80s to mid 90s.

The pattern will become more uncertain as we head into early next week. Ensembles are struggling with timing and placement of a trough that will dig out of the northern Plains. This will likely bring us rain chances at some point starting Tuesday into the later part of the week but with the uncertainty it`s hard to pinpoint exact timing. Higher confidence in cooling as the week goes on with highs falling back into the mid 70s to mid 80s by the later part of the week.
