.SHORT TERM... (Tonight through Wednesday) Issued at 711 PM CDT TUE SEP 9 2025
Tranquil conditions are on tap for the rest of the evening through the overnight hours tonight. The boundary layer still remains fairly mixed as we approach 7pm with surface winds observed in most locations between 5 and 10 knots from the east and northeast. We`ll gradually see the boundary layer decouple overnight with winds becoming calm or variable. Good radiational cooling with drier air still advecting in from the east will allow temperatures to fall into the lower 60s and upper 50s areawide. Counties along the U.S. Highway 278 corridor from Marion eastward to Cherokee will likely see locations down into the mid 50s by sunrise Wednesday morning. Gadsden dropped to 56 this morning while Haleyville recorded 57, so I don`t see a reason to not go at or just below those numbers for tonight`s overnight lows with clear skies areawide.
Surface high pressure will continue to persist to our northeast over the Appalachians with dry easterly flow continuing. Winds aloft will shift from the north to northwest between 700-500mb as an upper level trough axis swings across the eastern CONUS. We could see a few more high cirrus clouds as a result, but otherwise scattered cumulus and dry conditions are all we`re expecting across Central Alabama during the day on Wednesday. Upper level height rises combined with increased low-level thickness values and the already present dry air mass will lead to warmer afternoon highs topping out in the mid to upper 80s.

.LONG TERM... (Wednesday night through next Monday) Issued at 1208 PM CDT TUE SEP 9 2025
Little change is expected in the sensible weather through the weekend and into early next week. The trough over the Eastern CONUS shifts eastward slightly with broad ridging building in by Friday. This ridge will persist through the weekend and with the increased subsidence and dry air mass, daytime highs will trend upward into the low 90s by Sunday and Monday.

.AVIATION... (00Z TAFS) Issued at 711 PM CDT TUE SEP 9 2025
VFR conditions are expected through the forecast period. Easterly to northeasterly surface winds around 5 knots will persist early this evening, becoming calm or variable overnight. Winds on Wednesday will remain fairly light, between 5 and 10 knots.

.FIRE WEATHER...
The dry weather pattern will continue through the end of the week. Min RHs will drop into the 30% range for most of the area by Wednesday and will persist through the end of the week. The center of the high pressure will build overhead over the weekend, leading to slightly higher daytime highs. This will result in MinRHs dropping into the 25-30% range for many locations on Saturday. Winds should remain generally light with occasional gusts with daytime mixing.
