.KEY MESSAGES... 1. High temperatures stay cool today before a small rebound begins Friday and Saturday. Triple digit chances return on Tuesday and Wednesday.

2. 10 to 25 percent chance of thunderstorms in the Sierra Nevada today and a 10 to 20 percent chance tomorrow for thunderstorms.

3. Smoke will continue to linger as the Garnet Fire continues to burn but with improving conditions, the smoke will not be as thick or widespread.

.DISCUSSION... The trough slowly makes it way out of the area today into tomorrow as temperatures remain below average today. The threat of thunderstorms remain today and tomorrow as there is a 10 to 25 percent chance mostly in the northern portions of the Sierra Nevada. Temperatures climb on Friday and Saturday as a ridge moves in. There is a 50 to 90 percent chance of 90s returning on Saturday.

A smaller trough will slide to our north Sunday into Monday before a stronger ridge builds in on Tuesday. There is a 10 to 30 percent chance of triple digits on Tuesday which increase to 30 to 40 percent on Wednesday. Smoke also will remain something to look out for as the Garnet Fire continues to burn but hi-res models are keeping the smoke much closer to the fire.

AVIATION... 18Z Update:

VFR conditions will prevail across the central California interior for the next 24 hours. 10 to 25 percent chance of thunderstorms over the Sierra Nevada until 03Z Friday.
