.SHORT TERM /THROUGH FRIDAY NIGHT/... Issued at 213 PM MDT Thu Sep 18 2025
Satellite imagery early this afternoon shows mostly clear skies over eastern Utah and western Colorado. Off to the west, a low pressure system is spinning over southern California. Mid to high level clouds will begin advecting into the Four Corners region tonight, followed by strong moisture advection tomorrow morning. Light showers are anticipated to develop along the moisture transport gradient tomorrow morning before afternoon convection kicks off over the southern mountains in the afternoon.
The CAMs support isolated to scattered nocturnal showers continuing into Friday night with subtle perturbations moving through the mid- level flow. A thunderstorm or two cannot be ruled out with sufficient synoptic forcing present.

.LONG TERM /SATURDAY THROUGH WEDNESDAY/... Issued at 213 PM MDT Thu Sep 18 2025
Moisture advection advances northward throughout the weekend leading to periodic storm chances. Terrain-based afternoon convection will be the main player, but with an unsettled flow aloft, isolated showers and storms are possible throughout the entire weekend. There will be dry periods as well with seasonable temperatures.
Moisture is slow to move out on Monday allowing for one last day of showers and storms, especially north of I-70. The models have come into better agreement about this, but we will have to see if this trend holds through the weekend.
A brief dry slot moves overhead on Tuesday, but the global ensembles bring another push of modest moisture by midweek. Previously, it had looked like the dry air would be around for a few more days than we are seeing now. As a result, the high temperature forecast has moderated for much of next week.
