.DISCUSSION... Issued at 213 PM EDT Fri Sep 26 2025
Behind the cold front that moved through early this morning, satellite imagery shows mostly sunny skies across Upper Michigan this afternoon as high pressure ridging briefly moves into the area this evening. As the winds continue to die-down over Lake Superior this afternoon, expect Low Swim Risk conditions to return to the beaches of Marquette and Alger counties by around 4 PM as waves drop from just below 4 ft at noon to around 2 ft or less. Given the cooler air behind the front, expect highs this afternoon to be somewhat muted, only getting into the 60s. However, with skies being sunny and dry air moving in, we could see min RHs drop to into the upper 30 percents in some of the interior areas before recovering during the overnight hours. Because of the dry air behind the front/with the high pressure ridging, no fog is expected tonight/Saturday morning. The lack of cloud cover should allow temperatures to bottom-out into the lower 40s over at least the interior central and east late tonight/early Saturday morning.
While we do have another cold front skirting the area Saturday, no rainfall is expected with it as the better forcing will be located well north of the area. While an isolated shower or thunderstorm cannot be completely ruled out, rain chances are expected to be around 10% or less. With dry air moving in behind the cold front Saturday, we could once again see min RHs drop into the 30 percents in some of the interior areas Saturday afternoon, mainly in the western U.P.. In addition, thanks to the warm air advection ahead of the front, expect temperatures to be warmer Saturday, reaching into the upper 60s in the west to mid 70s in the central and east.
Expect high pressure ridging sitting overtop us to keep the U.P. dry for the rest of the period, with above normal temperatures expected to continue through next week as warmer air from the south sneaks into the region.

VFR conditions will continue through the forecast period at all the TAF sites. East to northeasterly winds less than 10 kts are expected to prevail through the evening across the area. .MARINE... Issued at 213 PM EDT Fri Sep 26 2025
Light winds of 20 knots or less continue the rest of today as high pressure moves through the region. However, as a cold front approaches the lake tonight, expect winds to pick up from the south at 20 to 30 knots, particularly over the central lake; a gust or two up to 30 knots, while not expected, cannot be completely ruled out either at this time. Along the front, there may be an isolated shower or thunderstorm over Lake Superior Saturday morning (15% or less), but for the most part no precipitation is expected. As the cold front moves through Saturday morning, expect to see winds veer to the west with a few gusts up to 20 to 25 knots before picking up over the western half of the lake from the west-southwest late in the day; expect the winds to die back down to 20 knots or less again Saturday night as high pressure returns to the region. Light winds of generally 20 knots or less look to continue through most of the rest of next week as high pressure ridging settles overtop the Upper Great Lakes.
