.DISCUSSION... As of 147 PM EDT...A cold front has passed through the forecast area and is dropping southward across the northern mid Atlantic States. Behind the boundary, winds have been breezy, with some northwesterly winds gusting up to around 20 mph at times. Visible satellite imagery shows mostly clear skies, with just some lingering cu mainly for southern and eastern areas). Dewpoints have been slowly falling today, as drier air continues to work its way into the region from the north.

Surface high pressure will be building southeast towards the area from southern Canada for tonight. Winds will be diminishing this evening, although a slight breeze still may occur in spots even into the overnight hours. With the clear skies, diminishing winds and dry air mass in place, overnight lows will be rather cool thanks to the good radiational cooling. Have leaned towards the lower end of the blended guidance for tonight, with overnight lows in the upper 20s to mid 30s across the southern Adirondacks. Frost/freeze headlines remain in effect for these areas, as growing season is still officially going for the entire area. For the the remainder of the area, overnight lows will be cool, with values in the upper 30s to mid 40s.

Over the weekend, the high pressure area will slowly drift across the North Country and into New England. This will continue to keep dry weather in place, with a mostly clear sky. Daytime temps will be a little cooler than recent days, but still very comfortable in the 60s to near 70 on Saturday. Another night of good radiational cooling is expected and more frost/freeze conditions are possible on Saturday night for the Adirondacks and perhaps the upper Hudson Valley as well. More frost/freeze headlines will likely be needed. Temps will be slightly milder on Sunday, with daytime temps in valley areas reaching into the 70s.

Some much needed rainfall may finally arrive during next week, although there remains a lot of uncertainty regarding exact QPF. A northern stream shortwave will be moving towards the area from the Great Lakes for early in the week, although how it interacts with another upper level low over the Mississippi Valley will determine the best timing for precip and just how much occurs. For now, will side close to NBM POPs and show chance values from about Monday night through Wednesday. Latest NBM doesn`t show much potential for significant rainfall, which is much needed, as the probability of seeing over 0.50" is under 50 percent. Still, any rainfall would be helpful and some light rainfall looks to occur, especially for northwestern areas, by the middle of the week. Temps will continue to average close to normal, with daytime values in the mid 70s and overnight lows in the 50s for much next week.

.FIRE WEATHER... Breezy conditions this evening will diminish for overnight. Some dew and frost formation is expected overnight. Over the weekend, high pressure will allow for a mostly sunny sky each day. RH values will be as low as 25 percent on Saturday and 35 percent on Sunday. Despite the low RH and dry conditions, light winds each day (under 10 mph) will prevent widespread fire weather concerns. The next chance of a wetting rainfall will be during the middle of next week.
