Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Birmingham AL 557 AM CDT Tue Sep 9 2025

...New AVIATION...

.SHORT TERM... (Tonight through Wednesday) Issued at 1055 PM CDT MON SEP 8 2025

At this time, our surface ridge of late has shifted to become more NE to SW elongated with the center across New England. This will leave us with NE-ENE low level flow into C AL. In the upper levels, broad troughing across ERN Conus has become flattened as the main low over ERN Canada pushes EWD. Across AL and much of the Gulf Coast, the flow will be very weak, but with some weak broad troughing trying to dig well to our N. Rain free conditions will persist through the short term. Look for high temps to continue to slowly moderate upward for Tuesday and again on Wednesday. Overnight lows will be pleasant, remain below normal for mid Sept, and have only minor fluctuations.

.LONG TERM... (Wednesday night through next Monday) Issued at 1055 PM CDT MON SEP 8 2025

Guidance continues to indicate a rain free pattern for the extended. ERN Conus ridging will remain the dominant feature through the end of the week. A cold front will begin to make its way SSEWD from the Dakotas early Sat to the Mid Mississippi River Valley by early Monday, but remain alas to our N still. In the upper levels, weak flow/troughing will be present across the Deep South for mid week, but with only very meager moisture available. As we head into the end of the week and next weekend, upper ridging spreads across the Central US from W TX with weak NRLY flow into AL and dry conditions. High temperatures slowly moderate upward through the extended. However, overnight lows should rebound nicely with the overall dry conditions through the latter half of the week but do look to begin to trend upward as well by next weekend.
