.SYNOPSIS... Showers and thunderstorms will continue through Friday afternoon and evening, generally confined to the Idaho panhandle. Areas of smoke and haze are expected to continue through at least the weekend, especially near wildfires. Saturday will be warm and dry, then the next weather system bringing cooler temperatures and additional showers moves in Sunday.

.DISCUSSION... Showers and thunderstorms will remain confined to the ID panhandle through this evening as the last of the moisture and instability that has brought storms to the region over the past few days shifts eastward. Heading into Saturday, a transient ridge of high pressure will bring a brief period of dry and warm conditions regionwide with high temperatures rising into the mid 80s. By Sunday, the next shortwave trough will be moving in off the Pacific, cooling temperatures by 10 to 15 degrees and bringing widespread chances for showers. While most of the region will likely see at least a sprinkle, the forecasted rainfall totals are looking less and less impressive with each consecutive model run. With numerous fires burning in the area, a widespread wetting rain (greater than 0.1 inch) would be extremely beneficial, but I`m becoming increasingly pessimistic as to whether we`ll get that out of this system. The trough will exit the region by Monday afternoon taking chances for showers with it, and another ridge of high pressure will be quick to build in its place through the middle of next week. By Tuesday and Wednesday we`re looking at dry conditions and temperatures warming back into the 80s. /Fewkes
