.SYNOPSIS... High pressure builds over the area today, then slowly exits into the southern Maritimes through Wednesday. A cold front will cross the region Wednesday night through Thursday. High pressure will cross the region Friday, then begin to exit across the Maritimes Saturday. &&
.NEAR TERM /THROUGH WEDNESDAY/... Low temperatures early this morning in the mid-30s, with patchy frost developing in cold spots in northern Maine. Light winds and high low-level moisture results in some valley fog this morning as well, which will burn off as sun rises.
Today, surface high pressure around lingers in Maine resulting in relatively clear skies and dry weather. HRRR smoke model does indicate a potential for some wildfire smoke to make its way into northern Maine today, but will stay elevated and not cause visibility issues. Did cut temperatures back a little in the north to account for smoke acting as a cirrus shield. Forecast daytime highs in the mid-60s in the north, and low-70s Downeast. Light winds, but also low relative humidity values in the 30-40% range, which continues to be a concern for fire weather purposes. Overnight, high pressure slides out to the Atlantic, and a coastal low pressure system starts to move northeast from down by the Carolinas. Winds light again, and there is a chance for some river valley fog in low-lying areas.
On Wednesday, high pressure again at the surface, as aforementioned coastal low-pressure system down by the coast moves northeast by the Gulf of Maine. Precipitation reaching coastal zones is heavily going to depend on the track of this low-pressure system, but current guidance indicates that the immediate coastline and waters could see some rain showers Wednesday evening. Skies mostly clear in the north, and overcast along the coast. Daytime highs in the low-70s. &&
.SHORT TERM /WEDNESDAY NIGHT THROUGH FRIDAY/... High pressure remains ridged across the region Wednesday night while low pressure tracks southeast of the Gulf of Maine and a cold front reaches northern Maine. The northwest edge of the precipitation shield with the ocean low could clip the Downeast coast with a slight chance of showers early Wednesday night. Otherwise, expect mostly clear/partly cloudy skies across the forecast area Wednesday night. The cold front, with limited moisture, will cross the region Thursday. Expect partly sunny skies with only a slight chance of showers across northern areas Thursday, with mostly sunny skies Downeast. High pressure builds across the forecast area Thursday night into Friday with mostly clear skies. Expect slightly below normal level temperatures north Thursday, with near normal level temperatures Downeast. Slightly below normal level temperatures are expected regionwide Friday. &&
.LONG TERM /FRIDAY NIGHT THROUGH MONDAY/... High pressure remains across the region Friday night with mostly clear skies. High pressure begins to exit across the Maritimes Saturday through Saturday night while still ridging back across the forecast area. Expect partly sunny skies north, mostly sunny Downeast, Saturday. Uncertainty increases Saturday night into Sunday night regarding the location of upper level low pressure. Generally expect partly cloudy skies Saturday night through Sunday night. Due to the uncertainty have only included a slight chance of showers. However, a more easterly located upper low could lead to more extensive cloud cover and shower chances. High pressure should return Monday with mostly/partly sunny skies. Near normal, to slightly below normal, level temperatures are expected Saturday through Monday. &&
