.SHORT TERM... Issued 300 AM CDT Sun Sep 28 2025

Today through Monday:

Upper ridging will build east from the Mid MO River Valley across the nrn Ohio River Valley today and tnt. The associated sfc high pressure area will shift ewd across central WI this morning then expanding into the lower Great Lakes late tnt. This will yield light ely winds and cooler temps than yesterday, but still above normal in the 70s. The upper ridge will then re-orient more south to north across IL and WI for Mon-Mon nt while the sfc wind fields do the same. This will boost high temps back into the 80s away from Lake MI.

.LONG TERM... Issued 300 AM CDT Sun Sep 28 2025

Monday night through Saturday:

Ridging in the polar jet looks to remain prevalent over our region through the entire work week, favoring dry and quiet weather. GEFS QPF plumes indicate that the soonest we could see the ridge break down and mentionable rain chances re-enter the forecast is around next weekend, and even then, it`s not a particularly strong signal. As such, we have < 10% precip chances thru Friday unless things change.

This same pattern favors above normal temperatures through the period, with predominantly light east winds keeping lakeshore areas cooler (in some cases, 3 to 7 degrees cooler than the values I`ll discuss below) thru mid week, gradually veering south late this week into this weekend. Daytime highs in the low 80s expected Tuesday, with a slight lull in the heat possible Wednesday and Thursday (upper 70s), then building back into the low 80s late this week towards this weekend. This entire period would be considered 10 to 17 degrees above seasonal norms (which are 67 to 65 degree daytime highs for Madison WI).

.MARINE... Issued 300 AM CDT Sun Sep 28 2025

High pressure of 30.1 inches will move across central WI this morning and to Lake Huron by early evening. Light and variable winds are expected over central Lake Michigan this afternoon when the high passes with light winds elsewhere. The high will expand to the lower Great Lakes with surface ridging still extending west into WI. Thus light winds will continue over the lake through Tuesday. Winds will then become a bit breezy out of the east for Tuesday night through Wednesday night when high pressure of 30.5 inches tracks from Hudson Bay to southern Quebec. A Small Craft Advisory may be needed from Sheboygan to Winthrop Harbor Wednesday night into Thursday morning for building waves.
