Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Huntsville AL 1204 AM CDT Mon Sep 8 2025

...New AVIATION...

.NEAR TERM... (Rest of tonight and Monday) Issued at 1047 PM CDT Sun Sep 7 2025

High pressure will remain dominant tonight as winds have subsided and mostly clear skies are persisting. A band of high cirrus can be seen moving east over N MS/NW AL as a mid level stratus deck expands over northern GA. Cloud cover is expected to gradually increase during the morning hours and fog is not expected at this time. It will be one of the coolest nights of the season so far thanks to favorable radiational cooling, with lows in the upper 40s to mid 50s.

Dry weather will persist to begin the work week as an upper trough axis shifts off the northeast coast and high pressure slowly meanders northeast. Large scale subsidence will keep dry air in place and afternoon temps will rise to the upper 70s/lower 80s. It will certainly feel more like fall today, so enjoy the cooler weather while it lasts!

.SHORT TERM... (Monday night through Wednesday) Issued at 1047 PM CDT Sun Sep 7 2025

Not too much will change in the overall synoptic pattern through the short term as upper troughing will set up again over the eastern CONUS. Upper ridging will begin to build east over the Great Plains by mid week and temps will be on the rise as this occurs. Highs will reach the mid to upper 80s each afternoon with lows in the mid 50s to low 60s. With the dry air still in place, will see little cloud cover and a rain-free forecast through the mid-week period.

&&

.LONG TERM... (Wednesday night through Sunday) Issued at 1047 PM CDT Sun Sep 7 2025

The upper high/ridge will continue to push east toward the late- week period and will keep temperatures on the rise as we head into the weekend. The moisture-rich airmass will remain to our south so the dry forecast will persist, but the summer heat is not quite done with us yet. In fact, temps will approach the mid 90s in western locations by Friday as the H85 high becomes more centered over the eastern CONUS. The good news is that with dewpoints limited to the 50s and lower 60s, heat indices will remain below the 100 degree mark so we do not anticipate any heat related headlines at this time.
