.DISCUSSION... Issued at 230 AM CDT Tue Sep 23 2025

Dense fog is the main concern the next few days as a ridge of high pressure settles into the forecast area through Wednesday. Fog has developed over a large portion of the area this morning, with visibilities ranging from a quarter mile or less, to around a mile where the fog has developed, and we have issued a Dense Fog Advisory for a large portion of the forecast area through 10 AM Tuesday. With plenty of moisture lingering over the area and light winds with the ridge of high pressure, I expect we will be dealing with fog once again tonight, and we may need additional Dense Fog Advisories once again tonight into Wednesday morning, and perhaps once again Wednesday night into Thursday morning.

The forecast becomes much quieter and gradually warms up through the rest of the work week with high temperatures rising in the mid to upper 70s for a large part of the area for Wednesday and Thursday. Our warmest day this week is likely to be Thursday. There is a surface ridge and upper level ridging that will produce that quiet weather through at least Wednesday. After that, there is a series of upper level shortwaves that pass across the region Thursday through the weekend. These appear dry for the most part, but we have some slight pops Friday night with a stronger wave as it moves across the area.

.AVIATION /06Z TAFS THROUGH 06Z WEDNESDAY/... Issued at 1254 AM CDT Tue Sep 23 2025

Fog and stratus has developed over the terminals, with conditions ranging from IFR to VLIFR are expected to linger overnight and through approximately 14z, followed by gradually improving conditions through the rest of the morning and early afternoon. With a lot of lingering moisture, conditions will deteriorate again this evening, with IFR conditions developing once again after 03z, and another night of LIFR/VLIFR conditions expected. Winds for this TAF period to remain less than 5kts.

.MARINE /FOR NEAR SHORE WATERS OF WESTERN LAKE SUPERIOR/... Issued at 230 AM CDT Tue Sep 23 2025

Light northeast winds of 5 to 10 knots this morning are expected to continue today before backing into the north on tonight into Wednesday, then becoming light and variable Wednesday night before becoming southwest and increasing slightly on Thursday. There may be some afternoon gusts each day which approach 15 knots. Waves remain generally 1 foot or less through Thursday. These light winds and lingering moisture have produced fog over western Lake Superior this morning, which should improve significantly for this afternoon and early evening. There may be another round of fog tonight as temperatures drop off tonight into Wednesday morning.
